Tips for Parents
Are you a parent of a newly diagnosed child with Tourette Syndrome. Maybe these tips will help you out a little.
- Get educated about Tourette Syndrome. The more you know the better you will feel.
- Find a local tourette syndrome support group and go to the meetings. This will help tremendously.
- Focus on what your child can do instead of making comparisons with a typically developing child.
- This is a very important one: Although your child may not be able to control his or her symptoms, you can control your reactions to them. Never yell at your child for something the cannot control.
- Build self-esteem and confidence skills. This is the most important thing you can do for your child.
- Breathe, Even though this might be killing you inside, do not let your children see it. It will just make them feel worse.
